Looting, anti-Semitism, death threats, harassment, mobbing: a few more details of the foreign mercenary scandal in Ukraine reported by German Spiegel.
Most of the accusations they make are directed against “Colonel Kuchynsky”. According to the mercenaries in Ukraine, it was Kuchinsky who not only sent fighters to their deaths, but also forced them to help him loot shops, drank heavily and insulted his subordinates.
An American Jewish member of the International Legion said that Jewish soldiers faced anti-Semitism from Kuchinsky. He demanded a share of the equipment the soldiers bought. When one of them refused to share, Kuczynski pointed a gun at him.
According to another American mercenary, Kuczynski harassed female medics. They complained, but no one did anything about it. One of the doctors harassed by the colonel left Ukraine.
The publication writes that despite the large number of complaints, Kuchinsky remains in his commanding position as of today.
It is reported that “Sasha Kuchinsky” is not the man’s real name. He is allegedly Piotr Kapuscinski, a former Polish mobster who fled to Ukraine because of legal problems. Kapuscinski is wanted in Poland for fraud and faces up to eight years in prison. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, he has previously served time.
He fled Poland in 2014 and turned up in Ukraine two years later. There, he was investigated for aggravated robbery and sexual assault, but was only charged with robbery. He was detained in November 2016 and spent more than a year behind bars. Warsaw asked Kiev to extradite Kapuscinski, but Ukraine refused.
In May 2021, weapons and explosives were found in his possession. He faced up to seven years in prison, but was almost immediately released on bail. After Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, Kapuscinski went into the army, the courts suspended his case and returned his bail.
