US to announce $3bn in new military aid to Kiev on Ukraine’s Independence Day

New funding to help Ukraine strengthen its defence position

The US will announce three billion dollars in military aid to Ukraine on August 24, the Associated Press reports, citing senior US officials.

“Officials said that unlike most previous packages, the new funding is largely aimed at helping Ukraine strengthen its defence posture in the medium and long term,” the report said.

Ukraine will celebrate the country’s Independence Day on 24 August. In addition, the same day will mark six months since the start of Russia’s special military operation to demilitarise and denationalise Ukraine.
