The German government today adopted additional decisions to strengthen energy security in the short and medium term.
This was stated at a briefing in Berlin by government spokesman Steffen Hebeshtreit.
“We are talking about time-limited measures to save energy in order to strengthen the supply and avoid emergencies this and next winter,” said a representative of the German Cabinet.
At the initiative of the government, residents of apartments and houses in Germany will be allowed to voluntarily lower the temperature in their living quarters, provided that there is a legally fixed “lowest temperature” at which property will not be damaged.
“Consumers should be encouraged to be economical in space heating. An additional obligation will be created to inform, for example, the owner or operator of the building about a sharp increase in gas prices to residents,” said Hebeshtreit.
