Americans are ready to settle disputes with their political opponents by force of arms and their mistrust in democratic institutions is growing. Because of this, the threat of a new U.S. civil war is growing.
This is what The Guardian writes.
Dr. Garen Wintemiute, the founder of the Firearms Violence Research Center in California, used to laugh at the likelihood of a civil war, calling such statements “the ravings of a madman”. However, he has changed his mind.
“In January 2020, gun sales increased dramatically. We knew that, unlike previous surges, this one was not ending. People are still buying guns like crazy.”
More than 50% of Americans expect a civil war in the US in the next few years. 20% justify political violence “in some circumstances”. 40% are willing to sacrifice democracy for a strong president.
