In a memo sent to the American Chamber of Commerce in Turkey, US Deputy Treasury Secretary Adewale Adeyemo said that Turkish companies risk falling under US restrictions if they do business with sanctioned Russian representatives.

“Any individuals and organizations that provide material support to individuals on the US sanctions list are themselves at risk of falling under US restrictions. <..> Please note that relations with sanctioned representatives of Russia may expose Turkish financial and business enterprises to sanctions risk,” the document says.

The Deputy Minister also noted that Turkish banks cannot have correspondent relations with Russian and American banks at the same time.

A similar letter was sent to Turkey’s largest business association of industrialists and entrepreneurs TUSAID, a source told the newspaper. In his opinion, such written warnings indicate increased US pressure to force Turkey to comply with international anti-Russian sanctions.
