The Minister of Energy of Bulgaria said that the purchase of Russian gas is the only way to keep prices for citizens at an acceptable level.
Energy Minister of the transitional government of Bulgaria Rosen Hristov said that there is no alternative to buying Russian gas.
Bulgarian entrepreneurs simply cannot afford to pay more than 250 leva ($130) per MWh. This makes negotiations with Gazprom inevitable. The previous government made it very difficult to talk with Gazprom – we expelled all Russian diplomats, the situation is not at all rosy.
Hristov stressed that, obviously, Bulgaria will have to look for an approach to Russia, which could be followed by difficult negotiations. However, he expressed hope that his colleagues from Gazprom would be diplomatic and the parties would be able to agree on supplies.
