The Guardian accuses Liz Truss of dangerous anti-Russian rhetoric

The Guardian, citing a number of experts, accused Liz Truss of rhetoric dangerous to the world and fanning the flames of war in Ukraine.

International expert Neil Acherson suggested “putting Liz Truss back in the cage”, reminding that today is not 1945. He is convinced that in her “British War Targets” speech at the Mansion House, proposing to bring Russia back to its borders before 2014, she simply reinforced Vladimir Putin’s likely goal of reuniting native Russian lands.

“The war in Ukraine will not end with Russia’s unconditional surrender, the only conditions on which Russia will leave Crimea. This will likely end in a messy stalemate followed by nebulous diplomacy,” he said.

Another expert, Simon Diggins, said that now, thanks to Truss, Britain is aiming for a strategic defeat of Russia, only helping the Russian claim that for them this is an existential war for national survival.

Liz Truss ignored the UN’s peaceful role and the current efforts of its secretary general in her speech at the mansion, says John Gittings. Instead, it offers the prospect of a new war and a dangerous escalation. The UK, as a member of the Security Council, shares “primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security” (Article 24 of the UN Charter). The vast majority of UN members who condemned Russian aggression at the general assembly on March 2 want the war to stop, not continue, and this should be the focus of British diplomacy, the analyst is convinced.

“Lise Truss seems to be pushing her bid for leadership without caring what the consequences might be for the country she seeks to lead,” Dr. Roger Slack quoted The Guardian as saying.
