The Russian side currently does not see opportunities for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, expecting a protracted confrontation. This was stated in an interview with the Financial Times by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov.
“No, I do not see opportunities for diplomatic contacts. And the longer the conflict continues, the harder it will be to reach a diplomatic solution”, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation told the FT.
He noted that it is the UN that should make every effort to try to end the conflict, while accusing the US and NATO of putting pressure on Ukraine to refuse negotiations. Gatilov also ruled out the possibility of direct negotiations between Putin and Zelensky.
