The rating of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has fallen to record lows, 62% of the citizens surveyed are dissatisfied with his work, and only a quarter are satisfied, follows from a survey conducted from August 15 to 19 this year by the Public Opinion Research Institute for the newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
According to the publication, since Scholz moved to work in the office, the ratings of his popularity, his government and his SPD party have been falling.
“Currently, only 25% of citizens are satisfied with the work of Scholz as chancellor, and 62% are dissatisfied – this is a negative record for the entire time he was in office,” the newspaper notes.
It is specified that in the direct election of the Federal Chancellor, Scholz would now take only third place. According to the poll, 25% would currently elect Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck of the Green Party, 19% CDU leader Friedrich Merz, and only 18% Scholz.
The popularity of the government coalition “Traffic Light” (SPD, FDP, “Greens”) is also falling: according to the survey, only 27% are satisfied with the government, 65% are dissatisfied.
As for the SPD rating, its popularity after the elections to the Bundestag dropped from first place to third – now 19% of voters would vote for it, thus the party would lose to the CDU / CSU (28%) and the Greens (21%).
The survey for Bild am Sonntag was conducted by the Institute for Public Opinion Research (INSA), and 1,427 respondents took part in it from 15 to 19 August this year. The maximum margin of error is +/- 2.8 percentage points. Respondents were asked the question: If federal elections were held next Sunday, how would you vote?
