The US State Department has expressed fears over its intention to recognize Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism,” Politico reports.
The U.S. State Department has warned Congress of the problems that may follow the recognition of Russia as a “sponsoring country of terrorism.”
“Multiple sources familiar with the conversations said agency officials have laid out to congressional offices in recent days serious problems with the legislative initiative,” the paper reported.
According to the paper, if the US takes such a step, multilateral agreements in Istanbul to lift restrictions on Russian food supplies and on Ukrainian grain exports would be in jeopardy.
“There are no guarantees that Russia will adhere to the agreement after such a direct attack by the USA,” the paper noted. It will also become more difficult to maintain work in the context of nuclear materials, the paper said.
