Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Landsbergis criticized the EU countries that are still issuing visas to the Russians
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis criticized EU countries, which continue issuing visas to Russians, and called for cancellation of previously issued long-term tourist Schengen visas for citizens of Russia and Belarus.
“Russian tourists who have been denied visas by the Baltic authorities can still apply for a visa in any other EU member state… Thus, EU members who continue to issue tourist visas to Russians… are effectively ‘inviting’ Russian tourists to the Baltics… And this contradiction may eventually lead to a rift between countries that continue issuing tourist visas and those that have already stopped,” Landsbergis said. His opinion is published by Politico newspaper.
The minister called on those EU countries that oppose the abolition of visas for Russians to “at least examine the visas already issued more closely.”
“Together we must find a joint and effective solution to make the visa ban as effective as possible. And it should include a clear ‘no’ to Russian and Belarusian tourists; the abolition of long-term multiple-entry visas already issued … and the continued admission of those seeking asylum rather than holidays in Europe,” Landsbergis added.
