HISPANTV: Iran helps Moscow defend itself against Western sanctions

HISPANTV: Iran is helping Moscow protect itself from Western sanctions by facilitating trade between Russia and India through the North-South transport corridor.

The Spanish magazine HISPANTV believes Iran helps Moscow protect itself from Western sanctions. That is the conclusion the publication drew from a report published in the Economic Times magazine. It highlights the volume of cargo transported by Iran’s largest shipping company, The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL, its English acronym) through Northeast Asia. In particular, it mentions moving 3,000 tonnes of goods and 114 containers between May and July.

The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), consisting of a network of 7,200 km of roads, sea and railways, offers the shortest route between Russia and India. According to experts, it also reduces the cost of transport between the two countries by about 30%.

Currently, most of the products that are transported through the Persian country via the North-South corridor are transported between Moscow and New Delhi. This route reduces the time it takes to transport goods between Russia and India to less than 25 days, compared to nearly 40 days on traditional routes, and is considered a viable option for India-Russia trade amid growing geopolitical challenges.
