The money will mainly be used to support refugees
The UK will allocate £36m ($42.8m) to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, Syria and East African countries. It was announced by the British Foreign Office on the occasion of the International Humanitarian Day, which is celebrated today, August 19.
In particular £15m ($17.8m) will go to support around 200,000 Ukrainian refugees. It also will give £14m ($16.6m) to East Africa, where some 48m people are at high risk of food shortages. The key recipients will be Ethiopia (£6m or $7.1m), Somalia (£5m or $5.9m) and Sudan (£3m or $3.5m). Another £7m ($8.3m) will go to Syrian refugees in Lebanon. The money will be provided through the UN World Food Programme.
