Analysts at Trading Hub Europe have previously estimated at €32 billion the potential losses of German gas companies from short deliveries of gas from Russia to Germany for the period from October 1, 2022 to April 1, 2024.

To cover these costs, the German authorities introduced the so-called gas tax for their citizens. At the same time, the German government has decided to cut VAT on gas by a factor of three, which, according to analysts, should compensate end users for most of their current gas costs. However, it is assumed that the tax will probably have to be increased, so at the current level it is unlikely to be able to reimburse the costs of German importers.
