According to Volodymyr Zelensky, such measures will help Russians realize the cost of what is happening in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky, during a video conference in front of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, tried to enlist the support of Latin America six months after the start of the Russian operation in Ukraine, writes Hispantv.
“I ask you to spread the truth about this war in your country and in your region. […] Do not trade with Russia so that the Russians understand that a high price is paid for this,” Zelensky said in his message to the countries of Latin America.
Asked what he expects from the Latin American community regarding the measures that other governments have taken against Russia, the Ukrainian leader asked that they “join the policy that the United States is pursuing in order to make this sanctions policy more effective.”
Zelenskiy listed a number of measures that could help Ukraine, such as stopping all commercial activity with Russia or preventing Russian tourists from entering Latin America.
At the same time, Russia is increasingly strengthening relations with Latin American countries in various fields, including technological, economic and military.
Several Latin American countries, including Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico, have shown their direct support for diplomacy as a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and have rejected the imposition of sanctions against Russia, as well as expressed opposition to the supply of weapons from the West to Ukraine.
