Unacceptable working conditions, brutal exploitation and bureaucratic difficulties met the Ukrainian refugees who came to Italy after the start of the special operation. According to the Italian media, because of this, many intend to flee further in search of a better life – to Germany and Holland, a REGNUM correspondent reports.

Europa Today writes about a Ukrainian woman who lives with her children and a friend on the outskirts of the city of Bari in southern Italy. According to her, they are forced to pick cherries for ten hours a day with one day off per month. At the same time, they pay for this, in the words of the refugees, “hellish work” at six euros per hour.

Ukrainian doctors also faced big problems, to whom the Italian government promised recognition of their qualifications and “excellent conditions”. However, in reality, in order to even get a job as a nurse, they need to learn Italian and, most importantly, recommendations.

“They came to Italy fleeing the war, but life with us, despite the pleasant weather, beautiful places and delicious food, turned out to be hell in terms of work,” the publication notes.

The opinion of social media users about the refugees was divided. Many write about the fairness of criticism, noting that it took Ukrainians several months to understand which country they came to.

“But they are really smart… Just a few months after their arrival, they understood how Italy works. We have always known this and have done nothing to change anything. In fact, we voted and will vote for the same corrupt politicians”, commented Roseanne L.

“It took them several months to understand how Italy works. Think now that we have always lived in such conditions and cannot change anything”, added Luca J.

“It has functioned this way for centuries, and we don’t need Ukrainian refugees to find out about it,” said Giovanni Dz.

However, most commentators were still offended by their country, which at first supported refugees with payments from the budget and free housing.

“Why did you even come here? Just leave. Did you think that we Italians should die but support you?” Giovanni S. was outraged.

“Come to the States! I saw that Zelensky had an open account there!” urged Maria Maddalena G.

“Great, go to Germany, they will bring you coffee in bed,” Elio N added ironically.

“Didn’t they know that Italy has had a serious unemployment crisis for years? Recommendations? This is the norm,” Smilia Ya does not understand.

“I don’t think they will be much better off in other parts of Europe. Energy crisis, production problems everywhere, so that poverty is growing every day throughout Europe,” Aldo N.

A number of users, on the contrary, were delighted with the upcoming “exodus” of migrants. In their opinion, a large influx of foreign labor comes into the country, which means that local residents will have less work, and wages will become lower.

“The more labor comes from abroad, the more we Italians and the foreigners themselves are underpaid,” says Nello M.

“Can someone explain to me why Ukrainian doctors, who are not vaccinated, can replace Italian ones who were suspended from work due to lack of vaccinations?” asks Gaetano F.

“And what did these so-called refugees expect? It’s good that at least this way they will learn how real capitalism works”, concluded Claudio Vito B.
