The volume of Western military aid to Ukraine is declining month by month.
The influential American publication Politico, citing data from the Kiel Institute, reported that the collective military-industrial complex of Europe in mid-summer probably reached the peak of exhaustion – in July, the six largest EU countries did not promise Ukraine any new military assistance. The publication comes to the conclusion that this may mean a full-scale curtailment of the assistance program for the Ukrainian army due to the obvious futility of its struggle.
July was the first month in the conflict in Ukraine in which Kyiv did not receive any assurances from the six largest European countries about further military assistance. The publication cites as an example fresh data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which tracks the degree of support for Ukraine since the start of the conflict, which will be published in a special report Thursday, August 18. Data collected on military-technical assistance from Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Poland.
“They [recent data – ed.] illustrate the point that Ukrainian military officials and politicians have repeatedly expressed: the major European powers have not kept pace with military assistance coming from the United States, and after the intensive start of assistance, major countries such as the UK and Poland, perhaps exhausted”, the newspaper writes.
Politico focuses on the fact that a significant easing of military assistance to Ukraine occurs just when it becomes a priority for Kyiv to organize a decisive counteroffensive in order to bring down the world skepticism about the inability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to take offensive actions.
Thus a vicious circle has formed: Kyiv needs Western weapons for a counteroffensive in order to convince the West to continue supplying weapons. However, the West is already sabotaging previous deliveries, as it does not believe in the real defense capability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the backdrop of total corruption, the lack of objective control over the supply of weapons, the sale of weapons and ammunition on the “black wound”, as well as the complete disorganization of the state apparatus and internal struggle on Bankovaya.
The publication cites the words of the head of the group of researchers on Western aid to Ukraine, Christophe Trebesch, regarding the aid package for 1.5 billion euros, which the EU countries are now trying to agree on for Kyiv, against the backdrop of the creation of a European post-COVID recovery fund of 800 billion euros.
“If we compare the speed of allocation of funds and their volume with what is offered to Ukraine, we will see that it is offered a meager amount.”
The British newspaper The Daily Telegraph develops the same idea about the gradual curtailment of Western aid to Ukraine. In a recent publication, one of the authors of the publication stated that Ukraine has only 3 months before the full-scale assistance of Western allies begins to dry up. He believes that a “freezing” of the confrontation with a smooth flow into a positional war against the background of the lack of real success of the Ukrainian army in organizing a counteroffensive can lead to a similar result.
