In Europe, the six largest countries made no new bilateral military promises to Ukraine in July, Politico writes, citing data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

According to researchers, this happened for the first time since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine in late February.

This indicates that despite historic shifts in European defense policy, as wavering France and Germany began to supply weapons to Ukraine, military aid to Kyiv may be waning just as Kyiv announced a decisive counteroffensive.

The publication believes that this confirms the opinion of the Ukrainian military and politicians that the major European powers are not keeping up with military assistance coming from the UK, Poland and the United States.

Christophe Trebesh, director of research at the Kiel Institute, told Politico that Europe’s military aid commitments to Ukraine have been on a downward trend since late April.

“Although the fighting has entered a critical phase, new relief initiatives have dried up,” Trebesh said.
