Almost half of Poles are willing to make concessions to the EC for EU funds

From the EU recovery fund, €24 billion in non-refundable grants and €11.5 billion in low-interest loans are given to Poland, these funds are intended for economic recovery. But the EC has not yet started disbursing from the fund due to disagreements with the government, reports Rp.pl

The European Commission has already approved the National Recovery Plan, a plan for spending money from the fund, but has not yet started disbursing funds to Poland from the recovery fund, as there is a dispute over whether Poland has fulfilled the conditions required by the European Commission.

The EC set three milestones as a condition for Poland to withdraw funds from the recovery fund: the abolition of the Disciplinary Chamber, the reform of the disciplinary system for judges and the restoration to ruling of judges illegally suspended from their duties. Regarding the implementation of these last two milestones, there are discrepancies between Poland and the EC.

IPR President Jaroslaw Kaczynski has previously stated that the Polish government “has shown maximum goodwill, made great compromises,” but “the concessions have not yielded anything, although we have gone far,” Kaczynski said of the Polish government’s relationship with the EC.

The opposition accuses the government that, by entering into a dispute with Brussels over the rule of law, it is denying Poland any chance of development, thanks to measures that would have come to the country from the Union. Moreover, according to the publication, a decision of the EC on allocating funds to Poland from the Union could have strengthened gold and mitigated the effects of inflation.

A poll was carried out specifically for Rp.pl, in which participants were asked whether, in their opinion, “Poland should make concessions to the European Commission on the rule of law in order to receive funds from the EU recovery fund”. The answer to this question was “yes” to 48.3 percent. The answer ‘no’ was given by 24.3 percent. 27.4 per cent. had no opinion on the matter.
