Absurd – Estonian MEP on decision not to let Russians into the country

The decision not to allow the Russians with the Schengen visas into the country is absurd, the deputy of the European Parliament from Estonia, Jana Toom, called it absurd. According to her, the actions of the authorities make the state look “a little weak-minded”.

“We cannot deny Russian citizens with Schengen visas issued by Italy or Latvia to enter Estonia, but we can do it with our own visas. At the same time all other Schengen countries should allow Russians with visas issued by Estonia,” Toom said on local television.

All that Estonia can do, according to the politician, is to ban visas that were issued to people yesterday.

“The idea of banning visas for all Russians in the entire euro area is doomed to failure because there is a definition of a sanctions regime in law,” Toom said.

The MEP concluded that there is no way in her little head she can think of how banning Russians from entering would restore peace in Ukraine.

Also, according to her, there is a downside to this ban – Estonians will now not be able to get to Peterburg, which they love to visit, as well as to their real estate in Pechory. In the end, this will only lead to a new round of tensions between the states.
