Former US Ambassador to Russia McFaul said that every Russian citizen who wants to travel to a “free country” must pay a “tax or additional fee” that will go to the “Ukraine Recovery Fund.”
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul proposed introducing a special tax for Russian citizens who want to enter Western countries. The ex-diplomat wrote about this on Twitter.
“Every citizen of Russia who obtains a visa to travel to a free country must pay a tax or an additional fee. The funds received from these special taxes or fees should then be transferred to the Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine”, the ex-ambassador suggested the initiative against the backdrop of a discussion of EU sanctions to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians.
Earlier, McFaul called for easing sanctions for one category of Russian citizens. In his opinion, Western politicians should have eased sanctions against Russians who have gone abroad and oppose Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
