Die Welt: German Interior Minister Faeser apologized for the scandalous photos with the mayor of Kyiv Klitschko.
The head of the German Ministry of the Interior Nancy Faeser had to apologize for the photos taken in Kyiv in July, writes Die Welt.
We are talking about a picture in which Faeser is captured together with German Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, German Ambassador Anka Feldhusen and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
“I regret this photo. Of course, it was inappropriate,” she said at a meeting with RND journalists in Potsdam.
“We were invited to an evening with the ambassador and with the mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko, and in the end we chose the same drink as he. I wouldn’t do that again. Because it expresses everything that is inappropriate when you come from another country”, she said.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs believes that, in general, the photos corresponded to the atmosphere in the Ukrainian capital.
“People go shopping. Flowers are being planted in public places again. People go to bars, sit in cafes, mind their own business,” she said.
But such explanations were not enough for the readers of the newspaper. Many commentators accused Faeser of hypocrisy, since such visits to Ukraine are paid for by taxpayers.
“If she did not pay for the trip herself, then this may be a reason to contact the Federal Audit Service,” said Adam C.
“The question is, what does she have to do with Klitschko! The Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Labor in Ukraine – what do they agree on? Eternal visa-free regime or freedom of movement for Ukrainians, as for EU citizens? Hiring workers? One thing is for sure: it will cost us money,” wrote Gabriele S.
“When champagne corks pop during a German politician’s visit to Kyiv, it becomes expensive for the German taxpayer,” summed up Christa M.
