Ex-Prime Minister of Slovakia says sanctions harm the country more than Russia

The former Prime Minister of Slovakia and the leader of its parliamentary opposition, Robert Fico, expressed the opinion that sanctions against Russia do not work, causing real damage to countries like Slovakia.

“Sanctions [of the West against the Russian Federation – Ed.] do not work. Most of all, they cause damage to countries such as Slovakia. The West has gone absolutely crazy,” Fico said in a video message on Facebook.

A vivid example, in his opinion, is the stoppage of the transit of Russian oil to Slovakia and other Central European countries through the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline, for which Ukraine is responsible.

Recall that earlier the Russian state-owned oil pipeline company Transneft confirmed that Ukrtransnafta had stopped the transit of oil from Russia through the southern branch of the Druzhba oil pipeline to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia since August 4. The reason is the impossibility of Russia to make a payment for transit under the conditions of European sanctions.
