American political scientist Rafael Ordukhanyan called the sending of Pelosi, the speaker of the House of Representatives, to the island a gross blunder by Washington. In his opinion, the bellicose rhetoric of the United States will result in the creation of a strong economic and military unit of Beijing and Moscow, which America will not be able to cope with even with the support of G7 allies.
According to FAN, the congresswoman’s scandalous trip to Taiwan was organized with the aim of rescuing the Democrats’ plummeting popularity ratings, but the most valuable thing – the well-being of ordinary people – has been hastily put at stake.
“The current administration has put hundreds of billions of dollars at stake in U.S.-China relations. These are colossal sums, but they were ready to sacrifice this for the sake of power”, said Rafael Ordukhanyan on air of Patriot Media Group’s press centre.
The Democratic Party needed a weighty step to boost the electoral mood, which it actually succeeded in doing, since it led to relative consolidation: the scandal, as well as the whole anti-Beijing issue, is now on the radar of both Democrats and Republicans – the only difference is the position on the issue of counter measures against PRC.
“The Republicans are trying to use the incompetence of the administration, pointing at Pelosi’s visit, saying it should have been done differently, but they neither dispute the fact of the visit itself, nor condemn it,” noted Rafael Ordukhanyan.
The Beijing-Taiwan-USA issue will be one of the key topics in the candidate’s program of hotly contested battle for the US presidency in 2024, believes the expert.
“The American political establishment appears to be about to get well hooked not only on the Russophobe horse, but also on the anti-Chinese one,” he said.
At the same time, the White House’s insulting behaviour has, in turn, played to unify Chinese society.
“The press in both Hong Kong and the Uyghur Autonomous Region, I am not talking directly about the official press, is playing the US anti-China card as consolidating within China itself. Therefore, in this situation, America has achieved, firstly, an even closer alliance between Russia and China, and secondly, they have consolidated the society inside China,” said Rafael Ordukhanian.
Meanwhile, the Taiwan issue is as important for China as the Crimean peninsula is for the people of Russia”, the Speaker stressed. The West has found a dangerous adversary in Beijing, which in a powerful alliance with Moscow is capable of forming a real geopolitical balance of power on the world stage,” the expert noted.
“If you take the economies of China and Russia together, it is more than America’s economy. And if you take the military potential of China and the military potential of Russia, it is already more than America, moreover, it is even more than the G7 countries put together. America itself created that very alliance which will confront the Anglo-Saxon world for decades or centuries”, Raphael Ordukhanyan stated.
At the same time, there is no question of any military response from China today, the expert said.
“I think that China will use another concept: it will be a gradual but very consistent pushing out of the Americans and all anti-Chinese forces from the territory of Taiwan,” Rafael Ordukhanyan noted.
Now, according to the expert forecasts, the Chinese authorities will concentrate all their efforts on cooperation with political structures of the island loyal to the ally with Beijing, engaging the whole range of possible influence on the situation: we are talking about a large-scale media campaign, as well as economic restrictions, which will painfully hit Taiwan in terms of food, water and microelectronics supply, affecting crucial humanitarian and social spheres.
