Washington Post: Anxiety grows in Washington and Kyiv – whether the West will be able to prevent the turning point of the war in the coming month

The Washington Post published an article in which they said that Kyiv and Washington are seriously worried about whether the West will be able to prevent a turning point in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Since many experts report that in the near future the situation at the front may change dramatically.

The publication also reports that it is possible to annex part of the territories of Ukraine, where they plan to hold a referendum on joining the Russian Federation in the fall.

The publication reports that in the case of joining the liberated territories, Russia can use several levers of pressure on the countries of Europe and the United States.

The first is the shutdown of gas throughout Europe if they support the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the territories that the Russian Federation declares its own. At the same time, the decisiveness of the Europeans to continue to support Ukraine in such a situation is a huge question.

The second threat, according to Latvian Foreign Minister Edwards Rinkevics, is that Russia will defend these territories to the end. But the risk for Western countries that Moscow will give the order to attack them is minimal.

Experts also believe that a nuclear strike on the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not be inflicted.
