The Guardian has published a scathing article about the critical situation with the training of recruits of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU). Some units, according to the publication, have only completed a 10-day course.
The Guardian writes about volunteers from former Western servicemen hired to conduct a 10-day training course in combat tactics for the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ new recruits. As the instructors themselves point out, such training programmes last for at least six months.
“While the battle for eastern Ukraine continues, soldiers in Donbas are suffering heavy losses in fierce artillery battles. Ukraine’s professional fighting force, which has been defending the eastern front line since 2014, is severely depleted. Since 24 February, new recruits have rushed to the front line, many of whom have received astonishingly little training,” the paper said.
The article said that after five months of heavy fighting, the Ukrainian army bore little resemblance to an organized military mechanism. According to The Guardian, the recruits trained in 10 days are not capable even of carrying out guard duty, let alone combat operations.
