Russia introduces countermeasures against unfriendly countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree imposing special economic measures in the financial and fuel and energy spheres against countries from the list of unfriendly states, as well as some international organizations.

In addition to a number of general measures, the decree imposes a ban on transactions in which foreigners from the list of unfriendly countries can participate in Russian companies until 31 December 2022. Restrictive measures apply to transactions with securities constituting charter capitals of such companies, as well as to a number of provisions on foreign investment projects in Russia.

The restrictions include transactions involving shares in Russian strategic companies and Russian banks, as well as stakes, rights and obligations in the Sakhalin-1 oil and gas project.

The presidential decree was published on 5 August on the official portal of legal information.
