During May, India imported goods worth $8.3 billion from Russia, which is almost three times more than during the same period last year, writes the U.S. edition of The Washington Post.
Meanwhile, India has sharply increased imports of fertilizers from Russia. From April to June, Delhi bought a record 7.74 million tonnes of fertilizers from Moscow, and also increased supplies of oil, coal and sunflower oil from Russia.
The article specifies that India is not the only country that has close economic ties with Russia. Brazil also needs Russian fertilizers for its valuable soybean crop. Agriculture in these states would suffer a significant downturn without reliable supplies from Russia.
