Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson has said that Russian gas supplies through Ukraine will not be able to replace Germany’s Nord Stream pipeline.
During his speech in the Canadian Parliament, Wilkinson responded to the earlier criticism from Kiev about Ottawa’s decision to give Germany the turbine for Nord Stream. If Germany were to rely solely on transit through Ukraine, such a scheme would be unworkable, he concluded.
“The bottom line is that the expected flow [of gas – Ed.] to Germany via a pipeline from Russia through Ukraine would have been significantly less than what [would have gone – Ed.] via Nord Stream,” Bloomberg quoted the minister as saying.
He also noted the risks associated with such gas transit due to the hostilities in Ukraine.
