Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has said that Russia does not deny its readiness for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine on its own terms.
Dmitry Peskov responded to reporters when asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder actually said the Kremlin was ready to resolve the conflict diplomatically.
“Yes, indeed Russia is ready to solve the Ukrainian problem diplomatically – on its own terms. <…> These conditions were agreed in Istanbul, and they were agreed by both sides – the negotiators of Russia and Ukraine. <…> After that, the Ukrainian side abandoned this agreement and left the negotiating track,” the spokesman said.
Peskov said that no matter what, the conditions previously outlined would be secured. He also told reporters that former German Chancellor Schroeder “has not expressed any desire to become a mediator”.
