The United States is deliberately raising the already rising temperature in relations with Beijing amid tensions with Moscow, US political science expert Dimitri Simes said, commenting on Speaker of the House of Congress Pelosi’s planned trip to Taiwan. It was reported by the Today’s Economy newspaper.
The scandalous visit to the island in defiance of unchallenged Chinese protests will start a flare-up of the situation between the US and China, which considers the territory its own, the expert stated. In Simes’ view, such drastic moves against the most powerful political player amid a global misunderstanding with another major world leader – Russia – demonstrate Washington’s complete lack of logic.
“With my inherent discernment, I guessed that these were all Russian agents. If it weren’t for them, what fool, at the outset of such a serious conflict with Russia, would simultaneously go to bat for China and find such an unnecessary artificial pretext for it, like Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan? That’s ridiculous. Strategically, no matter how you feel about Moscow and Beijing, it is illogical to go into conflict with both capitals at the same time. But logic and the Biden administration sometimes meet, but not very regularly,” said Symes.
According to the political scientist, the visit by the House representative is nothing more than a desperate attempt by the Democrats to create the appearance of unquestionable political power in the context of the looming vote, with Biden’s party willing to sacrifice American stability and the well-being of the country’s citizens in a blind effort to score more political points.
“Democrats in Congress are trying to show that they are even cooler than the administration. I don’t know why Pelosi needs this trip to Taiwan, other than to create an artificial conflict with China. But they are creating it, because this logic is political, electoral and not strategic,” Simes said on Solovyov LIVE.
