EU energy ministers have reached a political agreement to reduce demand for gas.
The energy ministers of the EU states at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, July 26, reached a political agreement to reduce demand for “blue fuel” in the union in the coming months, the Czech presidency of the Council of the EU states on Twitter.
“Ministers have reached a political agreement to reduce gas demand ahead of the coming winter,” it says.
The EU countries have agreed on the possibility of some exceptions to the mechanism for the mandatory reduction of demand for “blue fuel”, the Council of the EU countries said in a statement.
“In an effort to improve the security of the EU energy supply, member countries today reached a political agreement to voluntarily reduce demand for natural gas by 15% this winter,” it says.
