The United States and Ukraine, after the Russian strike on a ship and a warehouse in Odessa, began work on a “Plan B” for the export of grain from Ukrainian ports. The new plan involves the transportation of food by road, river and rail.

It is also expected to prepare barges and modernize rail systems so that they are technically in line with European ones, Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development, told CNN on July 25. A “Plan B” is necessary in case of unforeseen circumstances, she said. However, grain exports, under a recent agreement between Russia and Ukraine, remain the most efficient, Power said.
