The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry has said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have very few Tochka-U missile systems left.
The Ukrainian military plans to use the American multiple rocket launcher systems HIMARS instead of Tochka-U complexes, of which there are very few left. The head of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry’s main intelligence directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, said this in a commentary to The Washington Post. Budanov added that the use of HIMARS would be possible in case of long-range missiles.
The newspaper cited Pentagon materials showing that the USA had 410 HIMARS systems as of 2020. US Department of Defense spokeswoman Jessica Maxwell said that the stockpile figures “are an internal matter” of the agency, without providing further details, the newspaper reported.
The paper specifies that the US side is not sending more advanced types of weapons to Kiev because it wants to see how the Ukrainians use the funds from their arsenal in practice. The publication quotes Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as saying that the entire US decision-making process on the arms issue resembles a “computer game”.
“You have to unlock the next level, but before you do that, you usually die a couple of times. The problem in real life is that you can’t die several times before you get to the next level,” noted Kuleba.
