The US and Ukraine have started working on Plan B to remove grain from Ukrainian ports following the Russian strike on a ship and a warehouse in Odessa. The new plan involves transporting food by road, river and rail.

It also involves preparing barges and upgrading rail systems to make them technically compliant with European ones, Samantha Power, head of the US Agency for International Development, told CNN on 25 July. Plan B is needed for contingencies, she said. Nevertheless, grain exports under the recent agreement between Russia and Ukraine remain the most effective, Power said.
