The Qatari channel Al Jazeera published an article where it named the alleged reasons for the resignation of the Prosecutor General and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The head of the SBU, Ivan Bakanov, was fired for leaking intelligence, and Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova was fired for taking bribes, Al Jazeera reports.
The channel quotes Doug Klein, an employee of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council, who claims that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky lost confidence in his childhood friend Ivan Bakanov for gross mistakes before and at the beginning of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. According to him, at the beginning of the operarion, many high-ranking Ukrainian officials and law enforcement officers worked for Russia.
Regarding the dismissal of Attorney General Irina Venediktova, Klein told Al Jazeera of accusations against her for her lack of progress in reforming her office and sabotaging high-profile corruption investigations.
