Tbilisi reduces housing programme for refugees from Ukraine

Interpressnews citing a statement by the Georgian capital’s mayor’s office, reports the cessation of providing housing to Ukrainian refugees.

Georgia insists that it faces a heavy financial burden because of the need to maintain Ukrainian citizens. It is reported that the housing programme for refugees from Ukraine in Tbilisi will be curtailed as early as 31 July. The city’s mayor’s office has said that it is pinning great hopes on assistance from international organisations.

Instead of paid accommodation for Ukrainians from July 15 the monthly support of 300 GEL (that’s about $100) per family and 45 GEL (about $15) extra per person will be offered.

According to official figures, more than 5100 Ukrainian citizens have benefited from the housing programme in the Georgian capital.
