At a briefing following the analysis of documents related to the US military biological activities on the territory of Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on the facts of the use of Ukrainian territory as a testing ground for biological weapons not only by the United States, but also by their closest NATO allies, mainly Germany. It is reported about a number of projects implemented by order of the central medical and sanitary service of the armed forces of Germany.
The report of the Ministry of Defense refers to a large-scale screening of the susceptibility of the population of Ukraine to certain infections with a generalization of demographic, epidemiological and clinical data. It is reported that this kind of approach makes it possible to identify new regional virus genotypes and to select strains that cause latent clinical forms. In the case of the Ukrainian program, carried out through the German army – the Bundeswehr, special attention was paid to the causative agent of the Crimean-Congo fever.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, citing the original reports, reports that the program to study natural foci of the Crimean-Congo fever was implemented under the guise of improving the Ukrainian system of epidemiological surveillance. It is known that specialists from the Institute of Veterinary Medicine in Kyiv and the Mechnikov Anti-Plague Institute in Odessa were involved in the work on the study of fever.
“The interest of the Bundeswehr in the Crimean-Congo fever is due to the fact that the lethality of the disease can reach 30%, and outbreaks create the need for lengthy and costly measures for treatment, prevention and special treatment,” an official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry said at a briefing.
From the instructions to the specialists of the Bundeswehr, it follows that they should pay special attention to fatal cases of infection with the Crimean Congo fever, as this allows “to isolate from the dead strains of the virus that have maximum pathogenicity and virulence for humans.”
It is reported that tick-borne infections were of particular interest to specialists from Germany, as well as the United States. By the way, the financing of the American program in this direction, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, was funded directly by DTRA (Threat Reduction Administration, part of the Pentagon) under the UP-1, UP-8 projects.
