Admiral Tony Radakin, Chief of Defense Staff of the country’s Armed Forces, believes that Russia will be a threat to the kingdom for several decades to come.
British military commanders say Russia will remain a threat to the UK for decades to come. This was announced in an interview with the BBC Broadcasting Corporation on Sunday by the head of the defense staff of the country’s Armed Forces, Admiral Tony Radakin.
“The challenge posed by Russia will persist well beyond 2022, 2023 or 2024. This is for a long time,” Radakin said. Potentially, we are talking about decades during which Russia will remain a threat. This was clearly underlined in the big review we presented last year, and I believe that now the threat has increased due to the invasion of Ukraine.”
Radakin noted that at the moment London considers the Russian Federation as the most serious threat to its security, although China’s policy is also of concern to the British military.
“In the short term, the threat from the Russian ground forces seems to have diminished <…>, but Russia remains a nuclear power, it has cyber capabilities, capabilities in space, and it has special underwater programs to threaten the submarine cables through which the transmission is carried out information around the world,” Radakin concluded.
