Joe Biden’s son’s role in sponsoring Ebola virus research in Ukraine

The Russian Defence Ministry, at a briefing following a review of documents relating to US military and biological activities in Ukraine, said the role of US President Joe Biden’s son’s investment fund in funding Ebola research in Ukraine.

The Russian Defence Ministry, based on documents obtained during a special military operation, has reported on the role of representatives of the US Democratic Party in financing military and biological activities in Ukraine. One of the most prominent figures in this issue was the son of current US President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and his investment fund, which worked closely with the notorious Metabiota company in Ukraine.

“I would like to elaborate on one of the key Pentagon contractors that received money from Hunter Biden’s investment fund, Metabiota,” the MoD said in a briefing.

Metabiota has reportedly been a front for ambiguous tasks under international law and has been used by the US political elite mainly to carry out opaque financial activities in various parts of the world.

The most striking example of its dubious activities is its involvement in the response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa. A report by an international panel of experts, the Haemorrhagic Fever Consortium (under the auspices of WHO), who were involved in the fight against Ebola virus disease in Sierra Leone in 2015, outlines allegations of sabotage of the company’s employees’ work with the virus. In particular, it is reported that Metabiota staff failed to comply with regulations on the handling of sick people, as well as concealing the involvement of Pentagon staff, who used the company as a cover.

“The main purpose of these activities was to isolate highly virulent variants of the virus from the sick and dead and to export strains to the US… <…> The increased interest of the US military contractor in the Ebola virus is not accidental: the disease is one of the most pathogenic for humans,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Metabiota’s inconsistency with the goals of controlling the spread of the virus was also reported at the time by Philippe Barbosa, the World Health Organisation’s Ebola coordinator. In his report to WHO, he also recommended that the company’s personnel be recalled from working with the disease.

The Russian defence ministry has shown the original request for US funding to diagnose particularly dangerous pathogens in Ukraine. The Ebola virus was also included in the general list. The process is reportedly outlined as part of the US strategy to shift work on dangerous pathogens, where an increased level of risk has been recorded, to third countries.

“The research [including Ebola] was planned to be carried out at the Mechnikov anti-plague institute in Odessa,” a Russian Defence Ministry spokesman said, citing the original documents.

The Russian defense ministry specified that given the fact that the Ebola virus is not endemic, that is, it is not biologically linked to a specific region or population, and it has never been officially recorded in Ukraine, there is a legitimate question about the true purpose of such studies on the Ukrainian territory bordering Russia.
