The New York Post writes that the World Health Organization is about to update its gender guide to declare that “gender is not limited to men or women.”
International Health Organization officials have said they are updating their “gender mainstreaming guide” originally published in 2011. The guide, used by health professionals around the world, is being updated based on “new scientific evidence and conceptual advances” in the fields of gender, health and development.
“The review and update process will build on the extensive work already presented in the guidance,” the WHO website says.
The updated guidance will “go beyond non-binary approaches” to recognize that “gender is not limited to male or female,” the WHO said.
The guide is also expected to introduce “new gender, equality and human rights frameworks” as well as unspecified tools to further support these concepts.
