Josep Borrel said in his own blog that the G20 countries condemn Russia’s special military operation, but refuse to take more radical measures and statements because they want to preserve relations with Russia.
European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell wrote in his own blog after the G20 ministerial summit that the position of European Union and G7 states to condemn Russia for its actions in Ukraine and impose sanctions remains unchanged. However, this position does not prevail among G20 members.
“In principle, everyone condemns the encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of a country. But when it comes to naming the aggressor and specifying who is responsible for the consequences, many refrain from doing so for various reasons”, – Borrell said.
According to him, for many countries, the economic consequences of the crisis in Ukraine turned out to be more important than issues of responsibility for it. Borrell stressed that in this situation many want to maintain good relations with Russia and not take sides.
