The head of the German Foreign Ministry admitted that Western countries cannot give security guarantees to Ukraine.
Western countries cannot give Ukraine guarantees that involve the use of military means to ensure security, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, in this regard, the West, in fact, can do nothing for Kyiv, writes Der Spigel.
“I would like to promise that we will provide humanitarian corridors from the disputed regions of Ukraine. But we cannot afford it. Such a promise must be secured by military means. So I had to make it clear: there will be no no-fly zones. A good foreign policy also means keeping a cool head even when your heart is on fire. We have to endure the fact that it is impossible to do anything – such is sometimes the cruelty of foreign policy”, Baerbock said.
According to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, the armed forces of the West are to a certain extent helpless in the framework of the Ukrainian crisis, although the countries wish to provide assistance to Kyiv, but are forced to keep a “cold head” in the current circumstances.
Earlier it was reported that Western countries are unlikely to be able to continue to provide military support to Ukraine in large volumes in the long term.
