EU may face riots over fossil fuel phase-out

Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Timmermans announced the riots in the European Union with the rejection of fossil fuels.

Europe has no alternatives to the use of fossil fuels in the short term, said the first vice-president of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans. It is reported by The Guardian.

As early as next winter, unrest will begin in the EU countries, mass riots will occur if governments do not return to fossil fuels now. Timmermans explained that “lack of energy will lead to great upheaval in societies” and dissension.

According to him, Brussels will have to abandon the promotion of green energy in order to maintain a stable situation in the union. Otherwise, during the heating season, countries risk facing mass protests due to exorbitant energy prices.

“And if we do not solve the problem of the “urgent crisis” now, then we will, of course, move away from solving long-term crises,” he said.

At the same time, the official explained that people are much more concerned about pressing problems. Therefore, the government should shift its focus to resolving the current crisis.

In July, gas prices in Europe soared to $1,900 per thousand cubic meters. This figure was the highest since the beginning of March.
