The American edition of The American Conservative published an article where the author describes the symptomatic fatigue of Western society from the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the myopia of the current administration in the United States.
The author of the article, Peter Van Buren, calls US President Joe Biden’s fight with Russia fruitless and compares it to “a party that no one came to.”
And this is exactly the case in Ukraine, where the gradual advance of Russia is somehow combined with Biden’s conviction that global hegemony is at stake and that he is waging his war at little cost, writes Buren.
The journalist recalled that recently Joe Biden signed a decree sending a new aid package for Ukraine in the amount of $1.2 billion in addition to the already approved $40 billion lend-lease. At the same time, the author recalls that only the supply of a large number of weapons somewhat limited the success of the Russian army, but the stories are not about “women snipers” and the “Ghost of Kyiv”.
“The President and his establishment are the only ones convinced that they are leading the West into a heroic struggle. This war is waged by arms supplies and sanctions, but both of these paths fail, and Biden risks one day waking up the naked king of Donbass”, says the author.
Van Buren added that the stake of the collective West on the force of sanctions pressure against Russia did not work: Moscow only strengthened with Western help. At the same time, the author does not share the rhetoric of the current administration about the alleged pressure from Russia on the liberal world order.
“America is almost alone in saying that the liberal world order is under threat. What if other nations see so little benefit in this order that they do not regret his departure? he finished.
