Norway is on strike with might and main – in the North Sea, the work of three hydrocarbon fields at once was temporarily blocked: workers in the oil and gas sector demand higher wages. This was reported to Reuters with reference to the head of the Lederne trade union, Audun Ingvartsen. The government is hastily looking for a way out, trying to calm the rioters.
The strike participants refused the previously proposed increase in wages by 4.5%, demanding to bring the latter in line with the rapid growth of inflation, which only the month before last jumped to 5.7% Already today, according to the publication, more employees will join the protest three Norwegian fields, and three days later their ranks will be replenished again if the situation is not settled.
The paralysis of the Gudrun, Oseberg South and Oseberg East fields may result in a drop in oil volumes by 89,000 barrels per day and will reduce the amount of blue fuel by 27,500 barrels. The forced shutdown of several platforms at once will inevitably lead to a reduction in daily gas production by 25%, and “black gold” by 15%, the trade unions calculated.
Recall that earlier the EU and Norway set out to increase fuel supplies to Europe, due to the unstable situation in the global energy market.
“The EU and Norway will cooperate even more closely in the field of energy. The parties agreed to intensify work in order to increase the supply of Norwegian gas in both the short and long term,” the country’s energy ministry said.
Norway is recognized as one of the largest producers of hydrocarbons in Europe, and therefore the European Union has high hopes for it in terms of energy security – since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, Norwegian oil and gas companies have promised to increase production enough to be able to cover 40% of the gas needs of European countries. The strike of workers, as already stated in the local Ministry of Fuel and Energy, has critical consequences – both in terms of the energy crisis, and taking into account the difficult geopolitical situation.
According to the latest data, the authorities managed to persuade the employees to return to their duties, the arbitration court will deal with the proceedings.
