Sweden’s foreign minister says there is no reason to extradite Kurds.
The memorandum concluded between Sweden and Turkey for the kingdom’s accession to NATO does not imply the extradition of Kurds, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said at a press conference.
“There is no list or anything like that in the memorandum. But what will be done is to improve cooperation on counter-terrorism… As you can see, there is no mention of any list or figures in the memorandum. And there was no mention of any figures or specific lists during our talks in Madrid either. As far as I know, no specific lists have been handed over to the government. But, of course, all the bodies that deal with extradition and expulsion are constantly receiving various extradition requests,” the Minister said.”, the Minister said.
Sweden assured Turkey of its seriousness on the issue of counter-terrorism. “All extradition requests will proceed in the usual way in accordance with our legislation and ultimately decisions will be made by the highest court. We will comply with Swedish law, we will comply with international law,” she stressed.
