Kaliningrad authorities provide options for response to Lithuania’s blockade

Authorities of the Kaliningrad region submitted a plan of possible retaliatory measures to ban transit of sanctioned goods through Lithuania to the Government of Russia and the Presidential Administration of Russia. This was announced by the Governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, in an interview with the newspaper “Vedomosti”.

According to Alikhanov, the proposed set of countermeasures may create a lot of problems for Vilnius. The head of the region has not specified what exactly the proposals are, saying that the proposed “measures of various nature”.

“I have prepared a draft of countermeasures and submitted it to the government and the presidential administration. <…> Let’s discuss them if the need for them is 100%. But I will repeat: we have something to respond to economically, and quite critically for Lithuania,” he said.

Nevertheless, Alikhanov added that he hoped that transit of goods to Kaliningrad would be excluded from the EU’s list of bans after all.
