The Washington Post accuses Biden of backtracking on campaign promises

The Washington Post writes that the new proposals by the administration of US President Joe Biden on sites for oil production are contrary to his campaign, which was based in particular on issues of climate and drilling cuts. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

The plan will move the country back from its promise to cut national emissions by half by 2030 from 2005 levels.

The publication cites a plan for public discussion of the lease of drilling sites, published by the Ministry of the Interior. The plan offers no more than ten locations in the Gulf of Mexico and one in the Cook Inlet, the ministry says the plan may be further refined and the final program may include fewer potential leasing offers. Biden, during the campaign, promised to stop new drilling on federal lands and maritime territories.

The announcement does not match Biden’s campaign promise to permanently end fossil fuel mining on federal lands.

The announced plan was criticized by the head of the House Committee on Natural Resources Raul Grijalva:

“The new proposals are losing for Americans, will not help reduce the price of gasoline, and make emission reduction targets unattainable,” the publication points out.

In mid-June, Biden said he would use all methods at his disposal to reduce the cost of fuel in the domestic market.
