The Scottish government opposes the further allocation of the country’s funds for the armament of Ukraine, after the UK Treasury under pressure forced them to allocate £65 million, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Scottish Finance Minister Kate Forbes said she had agreed to provide funding “on this occasion”, referring to the £1bn additional military aid announced by the UK during the NATO summit in Madrid, but she stressed that this should not be seen as further “precedent”. According to Forbes, it is unacceptable for the British government to shift such costs to regional authorities.
Welsh Finance Minister Rebecca Evans expressed support for her colleague from Scotland, saying that her region was forced to provide £30 million to help Ukraine, which were considered for health care and education.
The Scottish government has said its £65m funding will be used to finance integrated air defense systems and thousands of medical supplies for Ukrainian soldiers.
